Presentation

The Spanish Society of Applied Mathematics (SeMA) was founded in 1991 with the aim of contributing to the development of mathematics in relation to its applications in various fields of science and industry.

Among SeMA’s main objectives are the advancement of scientific computing and numerical simulation, as well as mathematical modeling, mathematical analysis, and control techniques. The society organizes conferences and schools, publishes a scientific journal, SEMA Jr., and awards prizes to outstanding young researchers (SEMA Antonio Valle Award) as well as the best article published in SEMA Jr. It also participates in outreach activities.

The Jacques-Louis Lions Hispano-French School on Numerical Simulation in Physics and Engineering traces its origins back to 1984, when the first edition of this long-standing series was held in Santiago de Compostela.

Since 2002, with the incorporation of his name, the Hispano-French School has aimed to honor the French mathematician Jacques-Louis Lions, whose influence was significant in SeMA and among many of its members.

Since 2008 this school is also supported by  Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (SMAI).

Objectives:

  • Introduce individuals interested in Applied Mathematics to research, specifically in topics related to mathematical modeling and numerical simulation.
  • Serve as a meeting point for young and senior researchers from France and Spain.
  • Present recent advances in topics related to modeling and numerical simulation.

Target audience:

The school is primarily intended for young graduates, degree holders, or engineers who wish to begin their training in mathematical modeling and numerical simulation, both in research and industrial applications.

Additionally, the content of the school is also designed for industry professionals interested in learning about the latest advances in modeling and numerical simulation.
